Fall/Winter Jewelry Trends Recap

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

With this season’s fashion shows behind us, we wanted to share some
jewelry trends you’ll want to explore.  No matter what, a common theme
is making a statement through scale, bright colors and contrasts.

1. Huge!  Yes, exaggerated sizes of beads, gemstones and chains make for
weighty pieces designed to keep up with the strong shoulder lines of the season.
They also balance the skinny leggings or jeans on the bottom.  Necklaces up to
six feet long wrap multiple times.  Stacking, whether it’s bracelets, necklaces
or even belts also represent this powerful look.

2. New Metals!  We’ve begun to see more copper, brass and stainless steel jewelry over the past year.  This is a great way for designers to keep costs down, and explore new color combinations and textures.  Cubic zirconia pairs beautifully with not just gold and silver, but any metal.  You’ll also see several metals at a time combined in pendants, bracelets or other accessories.

3. Clusters! Whether it’s charm bracelets, or knots and twists of beads and pearls, you’ll find uneven textures and surprising patchworks another characteristic of this fall’s jewelry trends.  Statement cocktail rings may feature a large cluster of different color pearls.  In cubic zirconia, pave settings, with their radiant cluster effect are everywhere as well.

No matter what, anything goes!  You can wear your necklace as a bracelet, or your longer necklace as a belt.  Layer different metals together in a way you haven’t before.  Use color contrast, such as a brightly colored cz gemstone or
accessory to transform your outfit.  Most importantly, have fun.
